It measures the volume of the hippocampus in brain MRIs accurately and in a fully automatic manner. The European Medicine Agency has accepted the use of the baseline measurement of low hippocampal volume (atrophy) by MRI as a qualified biomarker in selecting (i.e. to categorise) subjects for trials in early Alzheimer’s disease as having a high probability of being in the prodromal stage of the disease as defined by the Dubois Criteria in 2007.
